How search works

Search indexes everything in your workspace: message content, file names and contents, people’s names and roles, and Jam transcripts with timestamps. Results rank by relevance and recency. Use quotes for exact phrases, or search within specific channels or date ranges to narrow results.

Search filters and operators

Filter by type (messages, files, people), by channel, by sender, or by date. Combine filters to pinpoint exactly what you need—like ‘from:alex in:#engineering before:2026-03-01’ to find all of Alex’s messages in the engineering channel from February. Saved searches let you reuse common queries without retyping.

Finding context, not just keywords

Search doesn’t just match text—it understands thread structure. When you find a message, you see the full thread context. For Jam transcripts, search results link to the exact timestamp where keywords appear, so you can jump right to the relevant moment.
