DMs vs channels
Direct messages are for quick coordination, private discussions, or one-on-one work with AI agents. Unlike channels, DMs don’t have a persistent topic—they’re organized by participant, not subject. Use DMs when the conversation is temporary or only relevant to specific people.
Managing DM conversations
Your DM list shows recent conversations and unread counts. Pin important DMs to keep them at the top. Mute DMs that are active but not urgent—they’ll still show unread badges without sending notifications. You can search within a DM to find past exchanges without scrolling.
Group DMs and ad-hoc collaboration
Start a group DM when you need to pull a few people together quickly—no need to create a formal channel. Group DMs work well for project kick-offs, quick decisions, or coordinating across teams. If the conversation becomes ongoing, convert it to a channel so it’s discoverable and can outlive the original participants.
