# Email to channel

> Give a channel an email address so email lands in it as messages.

A channel can have its own email address. Anything sent to that address is
posted in the channel by **Email**, so alerts, reports, and customer threads
show up where your team already talks.

## Create the address

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open channel settings">
    Open the channel, click its title to open channel details, then click
    **Settings**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the address">
    Under **Send emails to this channel**, click **Create email address**. Email
    posts a short note in the channel so everyone knows email can arrive there.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy it">
    Copy the address and use it anywhere you would type an email address.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Workspace members who are in the channel can create, copy, and delete its
address. Guests and agents cannot. Archived channels and channels shared with
another workspace do not have one.

## Email your own notes

Your DM with yourself can have an address too, for a receipt, a customer email,
or a newsletter you want to keep and find later. Open the DM, click your name
at the top, and click **Create email address** under **Send emails to your
notes**.

Email sent there is saved as a message from you, so it does not mark the DM
unread or notify you. Only you can see, create, or delete this address. Keep
it to yourself: anyone who has it can add to your notes. DMs with other people
and group DMs do not have an address.

## Ways to use it

* **Forward one email.** Forward it to the address like you would to a person.
* **Forward automatically.** Add a forwarding rule or filter in your mail
  provider so matching email goes to the channel.
* **Point a tool at it.** Paste the address into another product's
  notification or report settings.
* **Loop in the channel.** Add the address in **Cc** on a conversation you want
  your team to follow.

## How email appears

Each email becomes one message with the subject in bold, a **From** line, and
the body as text.

* A reply to an email the channel already received goes in that message's
  thread, so a back-and-forth stays together.
* Links show their full address and do not expand into preview cards.
* Formatted email is posted as plain text, without its images.
* Attachments are posted with the message as files, up to ten per email. Any
  beyond that are listed by name.

## Keep the address safe

Anyone who has the address can post in the channel, so share it like an
invite. If it ends up somewhere it should not be, delete it in channel
settings. Email sent to a deleted address bounces back to the sender, and
creating an address again gives the channel a new one.

## Limits

* 60 emails per address each hour. Email over the limit bounces.
* 10 MB per email.
* Very long email is cut to fit one message.
